Special Terms & Notes for Participants

Pilgrimage Protocol & Fitness:

  • This is a physically demanding pilgrimage involving long drives on mountain roads and moderate treks at high altitude. Good health and prior walking fitness are essential.

  • Register for the Yatra: Obtain the biometric registration slip from designated centers in Rishikesh/Haridwar, which is mandatory for the Kedarnath trek.

  • Respect the Sanctity: The entire Yatra region is strictly vegetarian and abstains from alcohol. Dress modestly, especially at temples. Photography is often prohibited inside temple sanctums.

Seasonal & Weather Considerations:

  • Optimal Windows: May-June (pre-monsoon) and September-October (post-monsoon, after Diwali). The temples close for winter (Nov-Apr).

  • Monsoon (July-August): Highly discouraged due to very high risk of landslides, roadblocks, and flooding.

  • Be Prepared: Weather is unpredictable. Carry layered woolens, a strong raincoat, sturdy trekking shoes, and a walking stick.

Health, Safety & Acclimatization:

  • Altitude Awareness: Acclimatization is built into the itinerary. Stay hydrated and inform your guide of any discomfort.

  • Medical Preparedness: Carry a personal medical kit with prescribed medicines, Diamox (consult doctor), pain relievers, and ORS.

  • Safe Pilgrimage: Follow your guide’s instructions strictly, especially during treks. Do not trek after dark.

Booking & Cultural Notes:

  • Advance Booking: Essential due to high demand and limited accommodation, especially at the Dhams.

  • Flexible Itinerary: The itinerary is a framework. Road conditions, weather, and group pace may necessitate changes at the guide’s discretion for safety.

  • Cultural Sensitivity: The Yatra passes through remote villages. Respect local customs, seek permission for photographs of people, and avoid littering. Use the provided plastic bags to carry back non-biodegradable waste.

Essentials to Pack:

  • Documents: Original ID proof (Aadhar/Passport), Yatra registration, emergency contacts, insurance copy.

  • Clothing: Thermal inners, fleece jacket, down jacket, rain poncho, woolen cap, gloves, trek pants, comfortable trekking shoes, and slippers for temples.

  • Miscellaneous: Water bottle, headlamp, sunscreen, sunglasses, personal toiletries, dry snacks, and a small backpack for daily treks.
