Day 1: Arrival in Manali | Acclimatization & Briefing
- Arrive at Himalayan Backcountry Adventures base in Vashisht, Manali.
- Acclimatization walk and exploration of Old Manali or Vashisht Temple.
- Detailed trek briefing, gear check, and meet your guide.
- Overnight in guesthouse.
Day 2: Manali to Chhatru via Rohtang Pass (3,360m) | Scenic Drive
- Early morning drive (4-5 hrs) crossing the famous Rohtang Pass (3,980m).
- Descend into the Lahaul Valley, following the Chandra River.
- Arrive at Chhatru, a scenic camping site at the confluence of rivers.
- Acclimatize and prepare for the trek ahead.
- Overnight in tents.
Day 3: Chhatru to Batal (3,900m) | Drive & Acclimatization Trek
- Short drive further along the Manali-Spiti highway to Batal.
- Visit the iconic Chandra Dhaba.
- Afternoon acclimatization hike in the surrounding rugged terrain.
- Learn about the unique high-altitude ecosystem.
- Overnight in tents at Batal.
Day 4: Batal to Chandertal Lake (4,300m) | Trek to the Moon Lake
- Begin the main trek (approx. 4-5 hours) towards Chandertal.
- Gradual ascent through a dramatic, rocky landscape with panoramic views.
- First glimpse of the stunning turquoise-blue lake.
- Set up camp on the lakeshore.
- Evening to absorb the serene, spiritual ambiance.
- Overnight in tents by the lake.
Day 5: Exploration & Acclimatization Day at Chandertal
- Day dedicated to exploring the lake’s surroundings and acclimatizing.
- Optional hike to a higher viewpoint for a breathtaking panorama.
- Photography, meditation, or simply relaxing in this pristine environment.
- Interactive session on Spiti’s culture and geology with your guide.

Day 6: Chandertal to Manali | Return Journey
- Sunrise at the lake—a magical experience.
- After breakfast, begin the return trek to Batal.
- Board waiting vehicles and drive back to Manali via Rohtang Pass.
- Evening arrival in Manali.
- Celebration dinner and overnight in guesthouse.
Day 7: Departure from Manali

Altitude & Fitness

This trek involves rapid ascent to high altitude (above 4,000m). Proper acclimatization is built into the itinerary, but participants must be physically fit.
Prior experience with high-altitude trekking (above 3,500m) is highly recommended.
Mandatory: Participants must disclose any pre-existing medical conditions (heart, lung, blood pressure) at the time of booking.

Weather & Route Contingency

Weather in the Rohtang and Spiti region is extremely unpredictable. Road conditions can change rapidly.
The itinerary, including the route and campsites, is subject to change based on weather, road closures, or group fitness at the sole discretion of the trek leader.
In case Rohtang Pass is closed, an alternative longer route via the Kunzum Pass may be used.

Booking & Cancellation Policy

50% advance payment required to confirm your booking.
Cancellation 30+ days before departure: 75% refund.
Cancellation 15–30 days before departure: 50% refund.
Cancellation less than 15 days before departure: No refund.
Himalayan Backcountry Adventures reserves the right to cancel the trek due to unsafe conditions, with a full refund.

Environmental & Cultural Ethics

Chandertal is an ecologically fragile and sacred site. Strict “Leave No Trace” principles apply.
Absolutely no littering. All non-biodegradable waste will be carried back.
Respect local customs and culture. Photography of local people should only be taken with permission.

Packing Essentials

Must Haves: Sturdy waterproof trekking boots, high-UV protection sunglasses, sunscreen (SPF 50+), lip balm, warm layered clothing (including a down jacket), thermal inners, gloves, and a woolen cap.
Recommended: Trekking poles, headlamp with extra batteries, personal water purification tablets, and a good quality 4-season sleeping bag (we provide, but you may prefer your own).

Safety & Responsibility

The trek leader’s decision regarding any participant’s health, safety, or ability to continue is final.
All participants are required to sign an indemnity form before the trek.
Helicopter evacuation, if medically required, will be arranged at the participant’s expense. Comprehensive insurance covering high-altitude evacuation is compulsory.
